Why we need B-12 and Nopalea together
Exciting news about brain shrinkage
The following news was exciting but not surprising. Researchers in England made headlines in early autumn when they announced the results of a study on people with memory problems. As one news service trumpeted, "B vitamins found to halve brain shrinkage in old." That's worth repeating: "B vitamins found to halve brain shrinkage in old."
Every new study about Vitamin B-12 and brain shrinkage reminds us why B-12 and Nopalea are must-haves for maximum health. Here are the remarkable new details:
Dr. A. David Smith of the University of Oxford completed a two-year clinical trial, in which he and his colleagues studied 168 volunteers who had mild cognitive (mental) impairment (MCI). MCI, which includes memory loss, language problems and other difficulties, is a major risk factor for serious mental decline. Half the group was given daily doses of a prescription-strength vitamin containing Vitamin B-12, Vitamin B-6 and folic acid. The other half of the group was given sugar pills.
Brain scans were taken at the beginning and the end of the trial to check the rate of brain shrinkage. The results, published in the Public Library of Science One Journal, showed that the people who started the test with the highest levels of homocysteine in their blood ended up with half the brain shrinkage rate of those on the sugar pills. High levels of homocysteine, as many in the TriVita community are aware, are linked to an increased risk of developing serious mental decline. B vitamins are known to help control high levels of homocysteine.
"... a very dramatic and striking result" Dr. Smith, the lead researcher, said "This is a very dramatic and striking result. It's much more than we could have predicted." He made another comment that I found significant. A reporter asked him whether or not he would personally take high doses of these B vitamins if he were diagnosed with MCI. He replied, "Yes, no hesitation."

On this side of the Atlantic, a formula for high levels of B vitamins and folic acid has been helping people for years: TriVita Sublingual B-12. And now that the anti-inflammatory power of Nopalea is available to us, too, there's more reason than ever to enjoy the benefits of both.
Why Sublingual B-12 and Nopalea work so well together There's a "fat" story at work when we talk about B-12 and Nopalea. As TriVita Chief Science Officer Brazos Minshew explains, our brains are two-thirds fat. The "good" fat we need to repair nerves and produce energy can be insufficient in our diets, or be blocked by toxins in our environment. TriVita's Sublingual B-12 helps make this good fat available to our bodies so it can do its good work. However, the fat still needs to get to all the places in our brain and body where it's needed. Transporting the fat is done by an amino acid called taurine, and this is where Nopalea plays such a key role.
We don't get taurine in our diet; our bodies have to manufacture it, and the process can be interrupted by nutrient deficiencies, emotional stress or toxins. Nopalea has an abundance of taurine, so it helps the good, essential fat we need to get to all the places where it can do us the most good. It's also significant to know that in all of nature, the Nopal cactus superfruit (the source of Nopalea) is the only mature fruit source of taurine.
So, for a big, "fat," healthy brain, I recommend taking B-2 and Nopalea together, every day.
